Dental Implants Orlando

Dental implants are titanium post that replaces the roots of teeth. The dental implant is shaped like a small screw and is surgically placed in the jaw bone to serve as an anchor for future teeth. Often, placement of a single dental implant is painless and quick. A single dental implant can be used to replace one tooth. A few dental implants can be used to replace a few teeth and 4 or more dental implants can be used to replace a full set of teeth. There are many different options for various patients and your dentist can discuss these options further.

The titanium alloy in dental implants have special biocompatible and durable properties. The majority of dental implants are made of commercial pure titanium which is available in different grades depending upon the amount and carbon and iron contained. The jaw bone grows into the surface of the dental implant through a process called osseointegration. Osseointegration refers to the fusion of the dental implant surface with the surrounding jaw bone. When attached teeth to the dental implants are in function, the chewing forces are transmitted down the dental implant(s) which stimulates bone growth. This prevents the bone from “melting” away which occurs when teeth have been missing for a long period of time. For example, denture patients overtime have to constantly reline or adjust their dentures. This is because the jaw bones resorb or “melt” away, leading to loose fitting dentures. If you don’t use it you loose it! If the jaw bone is not used where there are no teeth present then the jaw bone will eventually “melt” away.
Advantages of Dental Implants

In addition to maintaining the fullness of the jaw bones, there are more advantages to dental implants:

• Dental implants usually last longer than dentures or bridges
• Dental implants do not require reducing adjacent teeth. (dental bridge)
• Dental implants are permanent and the oral hygiene maintainance is like a regular tooth.
